camping @ witchita mts.
We camped as a family at the Witchita Mt Wildlife Refuge this weekend. I packed up the car on Friday with all of our camping gear, so that Saturday we could leave early. We finally made it out the door at 10am. First thing was to drop Zac off at Grandma's. Then we are off again. When we got to Chickasha, we stopped to get some fishing stuff and grab lunch in the car. The mountains are 80 some odd miles from home, so we still had a way to go. We go straight to the camp area and drive for a while trying to find a camp spot. Finally a family looked like they were leaving. So we asked them and they were. We hurried to pay for the spot, because it was really crowded. We get back and start taking out the tent and chairs and air mattress's. Suddenly it starts pouring! Aaron hurred to cover everything with our tarp. We ended up camping in our van and still had a great time.

Science Museum Day
We started our spring break off with a trip to the science museum. My best friend bought a pass and put our name on it. So we can go anytime. This was such a blast. We hadn't been for a year and Zac just loved everything, especially the trains!

Cooper's Hawk
It was such a beautiful evening that we had our back door open. Suddenly we heard a strange chirping from outside. Our first thought is that it was a squirrel mad at a cat or something like that.
Much to our surprise, it was a huge hawk sitting in our tree. I think that it was calling its mate in the neighbor's yard. Alex ran inside to get his bird book and we finally found it. It was a Cooper's Hawk. We got a few pictures of it before it flew away, it was so very cool!

Parker's turn
Parker was chosen to help with Rise and Shine in school with a girl from his class. He had to lead the Pledge of Allegiance, read the lunch menu, and say the word of the day. He did such a great job and we are so proud of him! Parker finally got to be the one on stage, instead of always watching big brother do it.

Hot Socks
Parker made heating pads out of socks a few years ago. You just microwave them and put them on your neck or wherever. Tonight, Parker asked if I would heat up the socks and I said no, because it was late and I didn't want to go back into the kitchen, (I know, that is kinda mean).
So I was listening to them take turns saying prayers and before Parker started, he said that his puppy had a back-ache and could I please heat up the sock for him. I had to hide my face to keep from laughing. After Parker finished, I told Alex to give me his sock too, in case his animal had a back-ache and I would just heat them both up. Well, Alex proceeded to tell me that Parker's puppy didn't have a back-ache, Parker just wanted it for himself. Then Alex said that he was going to use his sock for his own neck!
So I went and heated them both up. One for Alex's neck and one for Parker's stuffed puppy named Zackie. I had to laugh because that was a great way for Parker to make me feel bad that I said no the first time. He came up with a good reason to need his sock and I am pretty proud of him for thinking of the stuffed puppy. I could not say no to that!
Next time they ask, I will just heat up the sock to be nice. When I brought the socks back to their room, I told them the only way I was going to give it to them, was if they took a picture with the sock on. So they did!

Snow/Sleet/Ice
Yea, Zac had his first snow/sleet/ice storm and he got to play in it! I have been waiting all winter for this and thought that it wasn't going to happen this year. Which would have been sad! He really enjoyed it, but his boots were a few sizes too big and his handmade mittens from Grandma Larson slipped off a few times. He really didn't care, he just wanted to play outside.

Cafeteria food
I have made Parker's lunch since school started. He would not eat in the cafeteria! I think that he wanted to, but was too nervous. One evening 2 wks ago, he told me that the wiener roll-up was good from the cafeteria. I didn't know what he was talking about. He then explained that the juice box I put in his lunch had leaked out and gotten all of his food wet. So his teacher gave him a wiener roll-up from the school lunch. The juice I gave him leaked because a few days earlier he asked for another juice box and I said no. I didn't know that he had already poked a hole in the top and so he put it back in the cabinet.
Anyway, this morning Alex asked what was for school lunch and Parker said that is sounded good. So I decided to make him eat in the cafeteria. He was ok with it, as long as I sent an email to the teacher asking her to help him.
When he came home that afternoon, I asked how it was. Parker told me that it was "easy". He didn't even need help, he just watched the other kids and did what they did. It was mini corn dogs, peaches, a vegetable, and a brownie. He was so proud! Aaron and I were too!

Parker went to the Rodeo
Parker and Aaron went to the Rodeo with Kennady and Joe. They had a blast and took lots of great pictures, 307 to be exact. Kennady got the tickets when she was at a Western store. She told the worker there that she had been to a rodeo before and he gave her 4 passes to go again. Thanks Kennady for asking Parker to go with you!!!

Eye Check-up
I do not want to have to go thru eye surgery again. It was awful!!!! I was perfectly fine about the surgery before Alex went in and when he came out, I thought it was the most horrible thing ever! He cried so terrrible, said it hurt, and he was having asthma problems. It just freaked me out, (I was also 7 months pregnant). But don't worry, that didn't happen to anyone else that we know. I know of several other people whose children had the surgery and it was so much different than this experience. It was something that had to be done and it worked so well for Alex. He is an A & B student and aces math and reading and music!!! So it really improved his school work. If we had known, we would have done the surgery much younger.

Dr. Check-up
Zac had his check-up today. His weight is 50%, height is 50%, and his head is only 80%. That is less than my boys heads usually are. Big heads run in the family, Ha Ha.
He had to get 1 little shot, but he really does good. Doesn't cry much, then feels better and forgets all about it. Now he doesn't have to go back till summer, Yea!!!
